The Challenge
When I was first hired by UTEC University of Engineering and Technology I was assigned to create and design a new department within the organization: Career Services. After meeting with the university's directors and stakeholders, gathering with companies to understand their needs, and doing benchmark analysis nationally and internationally, I began to put together the Career Services department.
Strategic Design
Career Services' goal was to bridge the existing gap between companies and academia through building a community, in order to work together towards educating talented engineers that the market will then hire for meeting their needs.
In order to do so, we needed to work in three fronts: (1) Educating students with the socio-emotional skills needed in the market, (2) Bringing companies to work with us in this mission, and (3) Working with professors to set the example for students.
We created two courses that were intended to help the university educate students with the demanded skills, as well as being a platform that allowed companies to interact with the students in several different ways. On top of that, students worked with professors in real-life projects that combined engineering, technology, innovation, and teamwork, producing socially-aware solutions.
Finally, I designed Career Services' brand identity together with the marketing team, and further developed the services of the area that would build and enhance the relationship with companies and other stakeholders.
UTEC's Career Services provided experiences and opportunities for both students and companies to meet their needs by being a part of an engaged and interconnected community that resulted in 96% employability rate.

My team and I also designed Career Services' internal site customized for our students to easily explore the services and processes offered by us:
